Youths Endanger Lives to Collect Fuel from Overturned Truck

Must Read

A big group of young people in Nigeria put themselves in danger when they tried to collect fuel from a truck that fell over.

This happened around 4 in the afternoon near a place called Okurikang Junction in an area called Odukpani.

The truck slipped and fell because it rained a lot, making the road very slippery. This road, called the Calabar-Itu road, is being fixed slowly, which made the situation worse.

People watching said the truck was coming from a place called Calabar and was going to deliver fuel either to Akwa Ibom State or one of the eastern states.

The truck did not have any license plates, and people said that the driver almost got hurt but managed to escape safely. He was taken to a nearby hospital for help.

One of the young men, named Ikpeme James, said that some of his friends who drive motorcycles, called Okada, parked far away before they started taking the fuel.

Ikpeme also said, “We reminded each other not to use anything that could cause a fire, like phones or matches.”

Even though it was dangerous, some motorcyclists and villagers stood in the rain and collected fuel from the toppled truck.

There was a lot of traffic because of the accident, including other trucks carrying fuel.

There were no road safety officers or police around to help with the situation.
