The Yobe State Government confirmed that cholera has spread to five areas, and sadly, nine people have died.
Dr. Muhammad Lawan Gana, who is in charge of health in Yobe, told reporters on Thursday.
Dr. Gana said the five areas with cholera are Gubja, Fune, Machina, Nangere, and Nguru.
“By September 25, 2024, there were 132 people with cholera. Sadly, nine of them died because they did not get help quickly enough. This means about 6.8% of the people who got cholera died.
“Right now, 11 people are still in the hospital, but 112 people have been treated and are now well enough to go home,” he said.
“Because of this, we are very worried about everyone’s health. We are asking for more help from our friends and partners. That’s why we are saying there is a cholera outbreak in Yobe State,” Dr. Gana added.
He asked everyone, including health partners, religious leaders, traditional leaders, and citizens, to help the Yobe State Ministry of Health, the Water Resource, the Environment Ministry, the Yobe State Environmental Protection Agency, and the Yobe State Rural Water and Sanitation Agency to stop cholera quickly.
“I ask all our helpers from around the world and in Nigeria to use their skills to help us fight cholera in the state,” he urged.
