World Sight Day: Ophthalmologists Emphasize the Importance of Early Detection and Treatment of Eye Issues

Must Read

World Sight Day is a special day to think about our eyes and take care of them. It happens every year in October. This year, on October 10, doctors said it’s very important to check our eyes early if we think something is wrong. They talked about it at a big event called “Love Your Eyes, Children” held at the University of Nigeria.

A smart eye doctor, Prof. Ifeoma Ezegwui, told moms and dads to check their kids’ eyes. She said, “If you think your child sees funny, take them to get checked right away!” Prof. Ifeoma said we can stop a lot of eye problems if we catch them early.

She shared that many kids have eye issues because people don’t know when to seek help. Sometimes, kids don’t get glasses because they don’t want others to make fun of them.

Prof. Ifeoma also explained how moms can tell if their babies have eye problems. For example, if a baby doesn’t look right at mom when she feeds them, it might be time to visit an eye doctor.

Another smart doctor, Prof. Ada Aghaji, said that taking care of our eyes is very important. This event aimed to teach kids and everyone about keeping eyes healthy. They even had a fun quiz for school kids to learn about this!

Prof. Ada talked about common problems like cataracts and said a quick fix like a small surgery could help. But, she mentioned that in some countries, people don’t get help because they can’t find a doctor.

She also said other eye problems like needing glasses can be solved easily. But kids sometimes don’t wear glasses if they’re worried others will tease them.

To make the event fun, kids from different schools played a quiz game. They learned about why it’s cool to take care of your eyes and wear glasses if you need them.

This special day was all about helping everyone see better and be proud of taking care of their eyes!
