A 34-year-old lady named Mrs. Victory Okpako had four babies at once in Warri, Delta State.
Before these babies, she had one son who is nine years old. She gave birth to the babies at Shepherd Hospital & Fertility Centre on October 1, which is also Nigeria’s Independence Day.
The four tiny babies are doing well and are being cared for in a special machine called an incubator at the hospital. This has been reported by the Newslodge.
Mrs. Okpako is worried about how much money the hospital bill will be because she thinks it will be very expensive for her and her husband to pay.
She shared that her husband tries very hard to find money by working on the streets, but he has not been successful yet.
Even though they don’t know the final hospital bill, they have to spend N200,000 every day to take care of the babies in addition to the regular hospital charges.
Mrs. Okpako is very happy about having the babies, but she said, “We need money to take care of them.”
Mrs. Okpako, who owns a small store where she sells medicine and beauty products, has asked for help from the Delta State Government, charities, and the community to help her with money for the babies.
She pleaded, “If you can help me, please do. I really love these children and don’t want to lose them. I have worked very hard for them. Please, help us with money for their care.”
Talking about her health story to Newslodge, Mrs. Okpako shared that she got married in 2014 and had a son in 2015. Sadly, she lost another baby later.
The doctors found some problems and wanted to remove her womb, but she said no. She couldn’t have more children for a long time until she got pregnant again in late 2023.
The first scan made the doctors worry if she could carry the babies until they were ready to be born due to her past health problems.
But the doctors at Shepherd Hospital helped her, and she delivered four babies safely.
As of this report, Mrs. Okpako is still crying because she does not know how they will get enough money to leave the hospital with her babies.
A doctor named Dr. Okpara LoveDay, who works there, told the Newslodge that many doctors and two nurses worked hard to ensure the safe arrival of the four babies.
The doctor also explained that each baby costs about N50,000 every day for their care.
“She is correct about her amount, and I wish people will help her,” the doctor said.
“The babies still need to grow more before they can leave the hospital, and Mrs. Okpako is still getting better,” he added.
The doctor believes that the babies will be healthy and ready to go home in about three to four weeks.
