Woman Sentenced to Prison for Marijuana Trafficking in Lagos

Must Read

A court in Lagos on Monday sentenced a woman, Omolola Kayode, for selling marijuana.

Kayode, who is 30 years old, was taken to court by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA). She stood before Justice Mohammed Kala for trafficking drugs.

Kayode said she was guilty.

After she admitted she was guilty, the court looked at the details of the case. The NDLEA lawyer, Mr. P. O. Ajoku, called a NDLEA staff member, Mr. Aliyu Mohammed Ogah, to show proof.

The judge asked Kayode if the proof was true and she said yes.

Because of this, the judge said she was guilty.

Kayode’s lawyer, Chief Lilian Omotunde, asked the court to be kind and not too harsh.

She told the court that Kayode was in trouble with the law for the first time and was a single mom with two kids.

Omotunde also said that Kayode was honest and did not waste the court’s time.

Because of this, the judge decided to give Kayode one year in prison. But she could also pay a fine of N100,000 instead.

The judge also said Kayode must do one month of community service.

The NDLEA said that Kayode did this crime on May 21 in the Carnal area of Festac Town, Lagos State.

They said that Kayode and another person, known as “Commander,” who is still free, were involved in selling 259 grams of marijuana.

This crime is against Section 11(c) of the NDLEA Act, 2004.
