Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State has expressed reservations over the tax reform bills proposed by President Bola Tinubu, stating that they are not favorable to northern states and could have far-reaching negative consequences.
Speaking on Thursday during a meeting with the Christian community in Bauchi, Mohammed said the reforms are designed to benefit certain parts of the country, a move he warned could lead to unrest.
He argued that the policy would disadvantage the North, making it difficult for state governors in the region to meet financial obligations such as paying salaries.
“As for tax reforms, it is not a good policy for northern Nigeria because we are not going to get money to pay their salaries.

“They must listen, otherwise they are calling for anarchy, and that is not good. We vote for the president in the state and in other states.
“You must listen to us! They should not devise a policy that favors only one state in the country.
“It's not about religion. It's not about tribe. It's about national unity. “It is about national hegemony,” said the governor.
Mohammed further highlighted the importance of good leadership and warned that if the situation does not change, Northern governors will take action.
“We are all looking for good leadership and we will continue to urge them for the time being, but if the situation persists they will see our true colors. We are going to fight for it,” he concluded.
