Why Ruggedman Stopped Supporting VeryDarkMan

Popular Nigerian rapper, Michael Ugochukwu Stephens, who everyone knows as Ruggedman, shares why he stopped backing the outspoken activist, VeryDarkMan.

In a recent chat on the Echoo Room podcast, Ruggedman explained that he initially supported VeryDarkMan but decided to stop when the activist started poking into people’s personal lives.

Ruggedman said that VeryDarkMan’s way of activism has changed and doesn’t make sense to him anymore.

He shared, “I liked VeryDarkMan at first when he was talking about the NAFDAC number issue. But when he began getting into people’s private stuff, especially with women, that was not cool. To me, he lost focus.”

Ruggedman used an example to explain his feelings. He compared it to a policeman using a gun as the first step instead of the last. “If you’re a professional, you should handle situations calmly,” he said. “Even if someone speaks against you, there’s a better way to respond. You won’t see me using rude words like ‘your mama, your papa’. That’s just who I am.”

The rapper continued, “His new approach is what I don’t like. Before, he was calling out sellers without NAFDAC numbers, which was great. But now, what do you hear about him? Stuff about Iyabo Ojo and her daughter. That’s why I don’t agree with what he’s doing anymore.”

Ruggedman believes VeryDarkMan’s problems started when he commented on the Mohbad situation. “He said old actresses were using the situation for attention. Everyone knew he meant Iyabo Ojo and Tonto Dikeh,” Ruggedman added. “You can’t say such things and not expect people to clap back.”
