The World Health Organization (WHO), United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), Kaduna State Primary Healthcare, and Zaria Local Government went back to Tukur-Tukur community in Zaria to give more vaccines for diphtheria, a disease which has already caused the death of around five children.
When the team arrived, Abdul-Azeez Suleiman, who speaks for the Northern Elders Forum, said, “Thank you for coming quickly to help us with the diphtheria problem. We are glad you are here.”
He mentioned that the community has made a plan to make sure everyone follows the health rules. They want to work with the health team to stop the outbreak.
The health team will keep giving vaccines to people in the community. They will also go from house to house to see how far the disease has spread. Diphtheria can be stopped with a vaccine, and the team wants to make sure no one else gets sick.
Suleiman added, “Diphtheria is very contagious and can make people very sick. But with everyone’s help, we believe we can stop it.”
He thanked the health workers for coming quickly and promised that everyone in the community will help to make sure the vaccines are given, and the disease is stopped.
