The New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP, has explained why it needed to change its logo.
On Friday, the Governor of Kano State, elected in 2023 under the NNPP, said the party had updated its rules. This allowed the party to change its slogan, logo, and flag, as reported by the DAILY POST.
Dr. Ajuji Ahmed, the national chairman of NNPP, talked about this during the event where the new logo, flag, and slogan were shown to the public in Abuja on Friday.
The party showed its new logo, which will be on the ballot papers for all elections in Nigeria, starting in November this year. This got approval from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
However, due to some planning issues, INEC will still use the old logo for the September 21, 2024, governorship election in Edo State and the re-run election happening soon in Kano State.
But starting from the November 16, 2024, governorship election in Ondo State, the new logo will be used on ballot papers.
The national chairman, Dr. Ajuji Ahmed, explained the reason for the change: “In the last general elections, we noticed our old logo caused problems because it had too many colors. This made it hard to print the ballot papers. Sometimes, our voters got confused by how the old logo looked on the ballot papers across the country.
“As a party that wants to move forward, we did not blame anyone. We did not complain to the tribunals about how the old logo looked on the ballot papers across the country.
“Instead, we talked to many people inside and outside the party, which led us to where we are today.
“I also want to tell all State Independent Electoral Commissions (SIECs) across the country to be aware of this change. All SIECs should use this new logo on ballot papers for local government elections in all states.”
