Uniosun loses five students by fatal accident by road

The Management of the State University of Osun, Uniosun, has announced that five of its students lost their lives in a fatal road accident on Sunday, March 23, 2025.

According to a statement obtained by Daily Post on Monday, the University Relations officer of the University, Auseola Adesoji, revealed that the accident occurred around Balogun's area, before the school of Unity, Ikire, the state of Osun.

Adesoji explained that the accident involved a luxury bus that was traveling from Ibadan and an 18 passenger bus from Osogbo, which resulted in multiple deaths, including five students from Uniosun.

He also revealed that the reports of the Nigerian police and the federal road security body, FRSC, indicated that the accident was caused by a frontal collision between the two buses, which led to a severe impact that charged several lives.

He said: “Upon receiving this anguish news, our university management quickly sent a team to the scene to identify and support any of our students involved in the accident.

“Unfortunately, we confirm the loss of the following students: Olagbemide Dotun, a 200 -level software engineering student; Suleiman Farouq Adedayo, a 400 -level law student; Ogundare Pelumi, a public health student of 300 levels; Ogundare Elijah, a 100 -level mechanical engineering student; and Olawuyi Mary, a nursing student of 200 nursing levels;

“However, one of our students, Olagbemide Damilola, a 200 -level medicine and surgery student, survived the accident and is currently receiving medical care.”

Adesoji added: “The Nigerian police have confirmed a total of ten deaths of this unfortunate incident. OSun State University is working closely with the relevant authorities to gather more details about the circumstances surrounding the accident. We are also providing necessary moral and logistical support to disconsolate families, including funeral arrangements for deceased students.

“This tragic loss has deeply shaken our university community. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and loved ones of the deceased.

“We urge our students, staff and the entire university community to keep calm and support during this difficult time. OSUN State University will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as necessary.

“We extend our most sincere condolences to the afflicted families and pray that they find strength and comfort in this moment of pain.”
