The Federal Government has started a new project called the Universal Basic Education (UBE) Effective Schools Programme. This program is happening in 111 schools all across Nigeria.

Dr. Hamid Bobboyi, who is the big boss at UBEC (the organization in charge of basic education), talked about this on Monday in Abuja. This was during a meeting with people from UBEC, state education boards, school directors, and head teachers.

Dr. Bobboyi, through his assistant Professor Bala Zakari, said that the program’s goal is to fix two big problems: kids not learning well and many kids not going to school. They want to give children the tools to learn better and know more about today’s world.

He promised that UBEC is working hard to make sure schools are nice places for kids to learn. He said that the new program will help make sure all schools reach good standards in teaching and learning.

Dr. Bobboyi added, “The Effective School Programme was made to make sure schools have better tools and routines for teaching. This will help both teachers and students do their best.”

He said that after talking a lot with different people, they started the program in three schools in each state and in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). Now, it’s happening in 111 schools which used to be called UBEC E-learning centres.

Dr. Bobboyi shared some good news: the program has already made a lot of progress. They have given out teaching materials, tablets, and even set up special learning equipment that uses satellites. They have also trained head teachers and other teachers to use new technology in teaching.

Dr. Bobboyi said that for the program to work well, everyone needs to work together, especially the head teachers. These head teachers are the ones who will make sure the program is used every day in schools. He told them to use this program wisely and understand all its parts.

He also told head teachers to keep using better ways to lead their schools and help their teachers, so the program can be successful everywhere it’s used.

Dr. Ossom Ossom, another important person at UBEC, also spoke. He said that head teachers are very important for making sure the UBE Effective Schools Programme works well. He reminded them that they have a big job to do.
