Nigeria’s young girls’ soccer team, called the Flamingoes, have reached a place called Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic. They are there to get ready for an important tournament: the 2024 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.
There are 21 players with their coaches and helpers from the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) who traveled together. They arrived in Santo Domingo on a Thursday afternoon.
They started their journey from Nigeria on Tuesday. They flew on a Turkish airline from an airport in Abuja called the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport.
The team, led by Coach Bankole Olowookere, will practice and get ready in Santo Domingo for two weeks before the big games start.
In the tournament, the Flamingoes will be in a group called Group A. In this group, they will play against the hosts Dominican Republic, and two other countries, Ecuador and New Zealand.
Their very first match is an exciting one against New Zealand, happening on Wednesday, the 16th of October.
This competition is hosted by the Dominican Republic and will go on from October 16 until November 3.
