Two wood sellers have been saved, but two others are still missing after their boat flipped over in the Gbodo Jego River in Ijofin, located in the Ipokia Local Government Area of Ogun State.
The accident happened on Thursday around 7:00 p.m.
The people involved are Ahohe Seido and Dogbon, who are missing, and the survivors, Awhanse Jimoh and Ahohe Jimoh. They were moving firewood to Benin Republic for selling.
The Ogun Police Command’s Spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, confirmed the incident to DAILY POST. The survivors told the police about the accident.
They said their boat turned over because the water was too strong, making everyone fall into the river. Divers tried hard to find the missing people, but they haven’t found them yet.
She said, “We got a report about the sad event at the Ipokia Police Station on September 12, 2024, at about 7:00 a.m. Two men, Awhanse Jimoh and Ahohe Jimoh from Ilepa Village in Ipokia, came to the police.
“These men sell wood. They told us that two other people, Ahohe Seido and a man called Dogbon, were taking firewood across the Gbodo Jego River in Ijofin, Ogun State. They were heading to Benin Republic to sell the wood.
“As they were crossing the river, the water suddenly became very strong and flipped their boat over, making everyone fall into the river. Rescue teams could only save two of them and bring them back to the shore.”
Odutola mentioned that the police are still looking into what exactly happened and are checking the stories told by the two survivors.
