Transfer Deadline Day: Former Arsenal Star Explains Departure from Arteta’s Squad

Must Read

English goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale has shared why he left Arsenal to join the newly promoted Premier League team, Southampton.

The 26-year-old used to be the main goalkeeper at Arsenal. But over time, coach Mikel Arteta started to prefer David Raya as his top choice.

Ramsdale doesn’t like sitting on the bench and decided to move to Southampton. They paid £25 million for him to join their team.

Ramsdale has played in the south coast of England before. He played 37 games for Bournemouth between 2017 and 2020.

He also played 46 games for Sheffield United, but his best performances were with Arsenal.

While at Arsenal, he helped the team finish second in the league and was named to the PFA Premier League Team of the Year.

Talking to Southampton’s official website, Ramsdale said, “I’m super happy. The manager’s way of coaching and his excitement when I talked to him made me feel really good. I had never met him before, but he made me feel so welcome. It was really great.”

“Coming back to the south coast is also easier for me and my family, so I feel like I can quickly settle in.”

“I’m excited about this year. I just want to do what I love and play football with a big smile on my face here.”
