The IMO state police command has responded to the crisis that exploded in the Umusi/Olokwa community, Owerri West Lga, who claimed the life of the elected young leader, Stanley Nwoke, two months after he was declared the winner of the general youth election of the community.
In a press release, the state police command spokesman DSP Henry Okoye revealed that Police Commissioner, CP Aboki Danjuma, has condemned the murder and promised to stop those responsible.
Okoye revealed that the attack, which took place on March 15, 2025, left four brothers of the killed youth leader injured and caused the burning of nine houses.
In addition, he declared that preliminary investigations indicated that violence broke out after the youth elections held on January 3, 2025. After Nwoke was declared a winner, a faction supposedly directed by Chinaza Nwachukwu and others, who are currently in general and was suspected that he is behind the attack, rejected the result.
The spokesman of the command explained that, in response to the incident, the CP Donjuma, together with his management team, visited the community for an evaluation on the ground, where it was pity on the afflicted families and those whose houses were destroyed.
Okoye added that the police commissioner assured the community the commitment of the command to guarantee justice and avoid future violence.
He confirmed that four suspects have already been arrested and are currently under investigation, while efforts intensify to stop other suspects fleeing.
Okoye also declared that the body of the deceased has been deposited in the morgue, and the injured victims are receiving medical attention in the hospital.
“Consequently, the police commissioner ensures the public that normality has been restored in the Umusi/Olokwa community, with established security measures to avoid more disturbances. CP urges all interested parties to keep the calm and respectful of the law, emphasizing that violence is not a solution to disputes. He also calls community leaders to adopt peace -conflict resolution strategies to avoid future occurrences, ”he said.
The command spokesman took the opportunity to reaffirm the commitment of the command with the safety of all residents.
