The Senate will evaluate the new ministerial candidates on Tuesday

The Senate will begin the selection of the seven new ministerial candidates on Tuesday.

Basheer Lado, Special Adviser to the President on Senate Affairs, revealed this in a statement on Monday.

Lado, a former senator who represented Kano Central Senatorial District between 2011 and 2015, said nominees have started presenting their credentials in line with the National Assembly tradition for the selection process.

“Special Adviser to the President on Senate Affairs, Senator Basheer Lado, CON, has confirmed that the ministerial candidates have begun documentation ahead of their selection and confirmation by the Senate, which begins on Tuesday, October 29, 2024,” the statement reads. read.

The assessment is carried out in accordance with Section 147 of the Nigerian Constitution. The nominees will be examined in the Committee of the Whole, where they will be questioned by senators.

Last Wednesday, President Bola Tinubu dismissed five ministers and appointed seven new ones, pending Senate confirmation.

Tinubu also reassigned 10 ministers to new positions.

The newly appointed ministers are Nentawe Yilwatda, Muhammadu Dingyadi, Bianca Odumegu-Ojukwu, Jumoke Oduwole, Idi Maiha, Yusuf Abdullahi Ata and Suwaiba Ahmad.

President Tinubu, in a letter to lawmakers, last Thursday urged them to consider the selection and confirmation of ministerial candidates.

If all seven candidates are confirmed, the total number of ministers serving in Mr Tinubu's administration will rise to 50.
