The president of the Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture of the State of Jigawa, Alhaji Muhammad Muktari, has advocated the taxes and income collected to spend based on a percentage allocation of 50/50 or 60/40 in the area, place or point of collection, which guarantees that people see the tangible benefits.
The president made this dissemination while presenting questions from journalists in a political dialogue about gender response capacity and service tax agreements at the Manpower Development Institute, Dutse. The event was organized by the Fiscal and Government Justice Initiative, supported by the main initiative for Christian development and the Center for Legislative Defense of Civil Society (CISLAC).
He also promised to summon all unions and associations affiliated within the Chamber to discuss issues related to tax collection, prosperity and challenges in the state.
Alhaji Muhammad Muktari declared that the meeting was aimed at raising awareness and illuminating members of all affiliated associations on why taxes are collected, how they are used and the benefits for them.
He pointed out that “when taxes and income are collected and used properly, it makes the budget of each year feasible and attainable. We are talking about taxes for service. You pay the tax and the government will provide something that benefits it socially or economically.”
The president reiterated that all taxes and income collected should be spent based on a percentage allocation of 60/40 or 50/50 in the area where it was collected, ensuring that people see the real benefits.
In his comments, the Gender Officer of the Program of the Center for Legislative Defense of Civil Society (CISLAC), Miss Shola Alako Docass, declared that “the organizations had previously launched the report of the Gender Response Survey on the Fiscal Policy and the Administration in the State of Jigawa and maintained a dialogue of gender response and the agreements of the gender tax services.
According to her, the document takes advantage of the ideas of previous investigations on how taxes impacts women in the informal sector, examining gender disparities in tax payments and taxpayers' perspectives on Jigawa's laws and policies.
He explained that, after the survey, several interested parties, including civil society organizations (CSO), state and non -state actors, partners and authorities, relevant authorities, consciences to provide information, make recommendations and validate the findings before the final launch.
Docass added that “today's launched manual offers practical recommendations to promote equity, equity and tax inclusion.
“This manual presents an exhaustive analysis of gender disparities in fiscal policies and the economic participation of the state of Jigawa. It highlights the challenges faced by women, particularly in the informal sector, and offers processable recommendations for tax reforms sensitive to gender, financial inclusion and policy implementation.”
She emphasized that “when addressing these gaps, the manual aims to promote equitable economic opportunities and support sustainable development in the state of Jigawa.”
In his main speech, the Executive Director of the Prime Initiative for Development, Mr. Muhammad Abdul Dutse, declared that “this report was possible thanks to the support of Christian aid Nigeria and the Center for Legislative Defense of Civil Society (CISLAC) under the draft Gender Just through the Tax Systems Project in Nigeria.”
Dutse expressed his appreciation for his commitment to advance gender equity in taxes. “We extend our gratitude to the Internal Revenue Service of the State of Jigawa (JIRS), the Jigawa State Statistics Office, the Ministry of Commerce and the Ministry of Women's Affairs for its collaboration and contributions to data collection.”
