The Foundation provides electricity to 12 primary health care centers in Nigeria

As part of its efforts to boost economic growth in the Niger Delta, the Foundation for Partnership Initiatives in the Niger Delta, also known as PIND Foundation, has said it has provided electricity to some primary health care (PHC) centres. ) in Bayelsa, Ondo and Delta states. .

The non-profit organization, through its partnership with the Health Telecommunications and Electrification Alliance (HETA) led by the United States Agency for International Development, facilitated the electrification of 12 primary health care centers in the three states.

The Executive Director of PIND, Tunji Idowu, revealed this at the luncheon of its 2023 annual report titled: “Advancing new frontiers for greater impact.”

The initiative through the project seeks to improve access to electricity supply for primary health care centers in this region.

Idowu said despite the harsh economic realities of the county, the initiative continued to pursue its objectives and exceeded expectations in the last year.

According to him, the foundation has a mission to facilitate peace and equitable economic growth in the Niger Delta and “has so far done a lot to achieve this mission.”

He said: “Last year we exceeded expectations and achieved several milestones as we consolidated our previous work and successes while exploring new opportunities.

“Together with our partners, PIND continued to find creative and people-centred ways to carry out our mission of facilitating peace and equitable economic growth in the Niger Delta.”

PIND 2023 Annual Report

According to the recent report, the foundation has achieved the goal it set for itself and has begun to explore new opportunities to improve livelihoods and ensure lasting peace in a region that was once plagued by conflict.

The report noted that through robust programs focused on community-driven and research-backed needs, PIND enhanced growth and peacebuilding in communities across the region.

The organization said it has supported more than 49,000 farmers, including 46.35 percent women, through its numerous service providers in its Market Systems Development project.

He said the cumulative investments of PIND-supported farmers and members of other projects generated more than ₦10 billion.

The report says the initiative advocates for “greater access to arable land for smallholder farmers in Delta, Edo and Ondo states, working with representatives of these state governments and their land review committees to map the System Geographic Information System (GIS) of reserved lands and delineate substantial amounts for agricultural purposes.”

He noted that the PIND Foundation also created peace clubs in high schools and universities across the region to encourage changes in attitudes and behaviors and promote peace through education.

The report further states in part: “In addition, in 2023, PIND conducted an impact evaluation of its work over the previous seven years to demonstrate the value of its interventions in the Niger Delta and learn lessons for improvement.

“In 2024, one of the key activities of the PIND is the launch of the Niger Delta Regional Peacebuilding Strategy (NDRPS) document in partnership with the Ministry of Niger Delta Development.

“The NDRPS will apply a multi-stakeholder approach to address conflicts in the Niger Delta, with all stakeholders focused on peacebuilding and conflict management and resolution in the Niger Delta, pooling resources to ensure prevention, management and effective resolution of conflicts in the Niger Delta. region”.
