Terrorism accusation against senator for political reasons – MURIC

Must Read

An Islamic human rights organisation, Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC), has endorsed Bauchi Senator Shehu Umar Buba.

The group said the accusation leveled against them should be ignored because it is politically motivated.

MURIC spoke on Wednesday, October 9, 2024 through its founder and CEO, Ishaq Akintola.

He said:

“Bauchi State Governor Bala Muhammed recently wrote a petition to the presidency accusing the senator representing Bauchi South Senatorial District, Shehu Umar Buba, of sponsoring banditry.

“This accusation is false, malicious, unfounded and without any credibility. Incited by a totalitarian propensity and a Luciferian passion, the petitioner went to great lengths to pin the most hated crime in the country on a hard-working political rival and member of an opposition party in his state. This accusation is ridiculous, hateful, odorous and insidious.

“We are persuaded to question the motive behind the request. Governor Bala is in his second term. Nigerian governors have a habit of wanting to remain politically relevant after serving their two terms by becoming senators. Our findings have shown that the governor belongs to the same senatorial district as Senator Buba. Therefore, he may consider Senator Buba as someone who stands between him and his senatorial ambition, if he fuels it.

“MURIC has known Senator Shehu Buba since 2013 (eleven years ago). He comes across as a young politician with the passion of Nigeria's founding fathers. He is an embodiment of honesty, credibility and integrity. He loves his country with an incredible passion and has made immense sacrifices for it in the past. When it comes to competence, Senator Shehu Umar Buba is primus inter pareil.

“The sense of commitment with which he takes risks for his country is surprising. So is his talent for encouraging non-governmental organizations to engage in actions capable of inspiring hard work, patriotism, transparency and responsibility among young Nigerians. Such a man cannot feel empathy for talking less about sponsoring bandits. It's just ridiculous. This allegation exists only in the figment of the petitioner's imagination.

“MURIC calls on the Presidency and the Senate to ignore this allegation. In particular, we urge members of the Senate Committee on National Security and Intelligence to consider that the false accusation was deliberately crafted to erode their confidence in Senator Shehu Buba. That is why it was designed to dress the distinguished senator in the guise of a security threat.

“We call on Nigerians to dismiss the allegation against the distinguished senator. Those who have interacted with him personally have found him to be a well-educated, highly educated, morally upright, highly competent and highly intelligent person.

“Bala Muhammed was born on Sunday, October 5, 1958. In comparison, Shehu Buba was born on Saturday, October 2, 1976. Before us is a 66-year-old governor trying to destroy the political career of a 48-year-old senator. This is a good example of how old politicians have been destroying the young. This is profiling. It's a witch hunt. What happened to 'Not Too Young to Rule'?

“Before we draw the curtain, we clearly, unequivocally and emphatically state that this accusation is another manifestation of the satanic downward pull (PhD) syndrome. It's as simple as giving a dog a bad name so you can kill it. This type of evil should not be allowed in a God-fearing society. We cannot afford to sacrifice excellence for the sake of mediocrity. “Shehu Buba needs the protection of the presidency.”
