The Initiative of Challenge (TCI) Nigeria has emphasized the need to highlight the role of family planning in the progress of rights and empowerment of women, stating that access to family planning services allows women to participate in the workforce and significantly contribute to social growth. Despite significant efforts, the statement highlights that challenges continue to hinder the accessibility of FP in Nigeria. These obstacles include cultural and religious resistance to modern contraceptives, disagreement of FP products due to supply chain interruptions, inappropriate funds and policy gaps that limit the expansion of the service. Other issues, such as erroneous concepts and myths that discourage the use of contraceptives, the limited participation of men in the decision making of FP, low access to health in rural areas and affected by conflicts, and weak logistics management systems that affect the availability of basic FP products, further aggravate the problem.
To maintain the progress of FP and guarantee continuous advances, the statement suggests institutionalizing the training of FP in medical and nursing schools, strengthening the safety of basic FP products through improved supply chains and integrating FP into the Universal Health Coverage Programs (UHC).
