Supreme Court Ruling on LG Autonomy Will Boost Grassroots Development, Says NNPP Leader Ajadi

Olufemi Ajadi Oguntoyinbo, a leader from the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), believes the recent Supreme Court decision about local government independence will help local areas grow better everywhere in Nigeria.

Oguntoyinbo said this decision will make Nigeria’s democracy stronger and help people live better lives all over the country.

He said this in a message shared with DAILY POST on Wednesday in Ibadan, which is the main city in Oyo State.

However, he warned Nigerians to stay alert and make sure governors do not try to control local governments secretly.

“We need to keep an eye on the governors so they don’t try to manage the money of the local governments from behind the scenes,” he said.

“Local government leaders should be brave and make sure they stay free from governor’s control, now that the law protects them.”

He also praised President Bola Tinubu’s government for working hard to stop governors from controlling local government funds.

“The Attorney General made a strong decision that saved the country from governors overstepping their limits.”

Oguntoyinbo explained that it was wrong and undemocratic for state governments to keep taking away the powers and responsibilities of local governments by using temporary, caretaker systems.

“Using such systems in a full democratic setting is not right for the kind of government we have in this country,” he concluded.
