The Oyo State Chapter of the African Action Congress (AAC), has asked the administration of President Bola Tinubu to stop what he described as “unnecessary public relations efforts” in the health sector.
The party in a statement of its president, Kayode Babayomi, regretted that the recent federal government had been pressing what he described as deceptive narratives in the media, such as foreigners who come to the country to obtain adequate medical care, stating that This is far from the truth and nothing more than a public relations trick with mischievous intentions.
According to him, the time has come to question what caused the escape of brains in the health sector with more than 40,000 Nigerian doctors who practice in the United States, the United Kingdom and Canada, while only 9,000 doctors remain in the country.
He added that the National Association of Resident Physicians (Nard) revealed that nine out of 10 doctors in the country wish to practice outside Nigeria, noting that these statistics do not reflect a country with a healthy health system.
Babayomi said that the shortage of doctors and the lack of basic facilities in health centers have led many citizens to seek medical care outside the country, stating that there have even been cases in which patients ran out of isolation centers during Locks due to bad conditions. .
He said: “Accessing medical care in Nigerian hospitals, especially federal and state facilities, has been a challenge. There are inappropriate resources, and hospitals suffer from epileptic energy supply, which forces patients to contribute to buying fuel. People who promote these false public relations probably never use these hospitals for their own medical care needs. The president seems to always be on the next flight available to France or the United Kingdom even for minor headaches.
“A government that spends billions in luxury products and vehicles instead of investing in the health sector should not be taken seriously.”
The president of the AAC insisted that medical care and education are constantly sub -counted in the country, careless in favor of the luxurious lifestyle of the leaders, stating that the government led by the Congress of all progressives (APC) should cease Deceptive public relations efforts and focus on real work on real work. .
The statement said: “We live in a country where people prefer to seek attention in private hospitals instead of government institutions.
“The Federal Government should establish more affordable hospitals at local and federal level, while state governments should prioritize health systems and construction on construction projects that do not benefit the population. Local and state governments must focus on projects that affect the lives of citizens instead of those who create opportunities for the improper appropriation of public funds.
“The Nigerians are becoming more and more aware of these problems, and the end of such practices is close, since people are ready to show the current administration the departure of the office in 2027”.
