Steps to Qualify for Canada’s Federal Skilled Worker Visa Program

Must Read

Canada’s Federal Skilled Worker (FSW) Visa Program is a way for skilled people to become permanent residents of Canada. This guide will show you how to qualify.

According to DAAD Scholarships, “This program helps people who want to live and work in Canada while helping the economy and society.”

Language Skills

To apply for the FSW Visa, you need good English or French skills. You must take a test like IELTS or CELPIP for English, or TEF for French.

Aim for at least Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) 7 to get up to 24 points.

If you can speak both languages, getting CLB 5 in the second language gives you 4 more points.

Education

Your education is very important for the FSW Visa. You need to show proof of your education. If you studied outside Canada, you’ll need an Educational Credential Assessment (ECA).

The highest level of education gets the most points. A high school diploma gets some points, but a PhD gets the full 25 points. To get more points, you may want to get higher education or more certification.

Work Experience

Work experience is also key. You need at least one year of full-time, paid work in a skilled job.

More years of experience means more points. Six years or more can give you the highest score of 15 points.

Make sure your job matches Canada’s National Occupational Classification (NOC) codes 0, 1, 2, or 3.

Age

Your age also affects your points. Being 18 to 35 years old gives you the most points, up to 12 points.

Points drop for those older than 36, but you can still score high in other areas.

Those under 18 or over 47 get no points for age but can still score in other areas to strengthen their application.

Job Offers

Having a job offer from a Canadian employer can give you up to 10 extra points. The job must be full-time, at least 30 hours a week, and last for at least one year.

If you don’t have a job offer, focus on other parts of the application to succeed.

Adaptability

Adaptability shows how well you might settle in Canada. You can get points if your spouse has language skills, if you have studied or worked in Canada, or if you have relatives in Canada.

You can earn points based on your or your spouse’s qualifications, offering flexibility.
