On Tuesday night, a terrible accident happened on the busy Ore-Ondo highway in the Ajue area of Ondo State. Sixteen people lost their lives in this tragic incident.
It all started when a small bus, called an 18-seater Toyota Hiace, crashed into a big truck. The collision was so hard that both vehicles caught fire.
Three people got hurt in the crash. An eyewitness said the bus was going very fast when the driver tried to pass another vehicle. This led to the bus crashing directly into the truck.
“The bus driver was driving too fast and tried to pass the vehicle in front of him. But he couldn’t avoid the truck coming his way. The crash was so big that the bus caught fire right away, and many people inside couldn’t get out.”
Mr. Samuel Ibitoye, the leader of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in the state, confirmed the accident. He said it happened because of speeding and trying to overtake wrongly.
Mr. Ibitoye asked all drivers to drive carefully and follow the speed limits. He also said drivers should always be careful and watch other vehicles on the road.
He mentioned that two people survived the accident. The rescue team finished their work at 11:00 p.m.
