The Social Democratic Party leader, Alhaji Shehu Musa Gabam, has asked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to make sure all government workers are paid the same.
Gabam is upset because some parents have to pay up to N3,000,000 so their children can get a job after years of schooling. This is very tough for the families.
He pointed out that workers in certain government jobs get much better pay than others, even though they all work for the same government.
Gabam talked about this on Monday in Abuja during the International Youth Day Celebration by the Social Democratic Party.
“Some government offices ask for one, two, or even three million naira for a job,” he said.
“This is very unfair. Parents often sell their belongings to provide education for their children. Then, when those children are ready to work and support their families, parents need to sell more things just to get them a job,” he added.
“This is the worst kind of treatment. I hope President Bola Tinubu can find those departments where this happens. For example, people working at NNPCL and NPA get paid a lot more than those at the Ministry of Information.”
“These are all government jobs, but the pay is not the same. This is wrong and must change. Every parent should not have to fight to get their children into high-paying agencies like NNPCL or FIRS,” he argued.
He continued, “Every government job should be good. It’s not about the job itself, but the people in it. Sometimes, people without any experience are put in important roles. We need to demand fair treatment,” Gabam concluded.
