Residents of Shavoh, a neighborhood in Jalingo, Taraba State capital, are currently gripped by fear following reports of suspected gunmen patrolling the area on Sunday night.
Eyewitnesses who spoke to our reporter stated that unidentified individuals, armed with dangerous weapons, were also seen guarding the houses during the early hours of Monday.
The development has left residents of the community on edge, as armed figures were said to have been seen moving stealthily through the streets.
The presence of suspicious people has caused widespread concern, with residents expressing fear for their safety and that of their neighborhood.
“We no longer feel safe even in our own homes,” one resident lamented, echoing the sentiments of many in the community.
In response, community leaders and residents have called on the state government and security agencies to take swift action.
They urge authorities to deploy personnel to investigate the reports and implement measures to deter possible criminal activities.
Local leaders have also requested that security patrols be increased in the area to restore tranquility.
“The situation demands immediate attention,” said a community elder. “We need assurance that our lives and property are safe.”
However, when contacted by Newslodge, Taraba State Police Command spokesperson Abdullahi Usman said the divisional police officer, DPO in charge of the area, has not informed the development.
