The Bauchi State House of Assembly has been urged to, as a matter of urgency, exercise its legislative powers and repeal the entire 2025 budget already approved by the House of Assembly and signed into law by the State Governor, Sen Bala Mohammed Abdulkadir.
The call was made by the State Chapter of the People's Redemption Party (PRP), in a statement signed by the Secretary, Hon Wada Abdullahi, which was made available to journalists in Bauchi on Monday.
The PRP alleged that the budget “is heavily laden with corruption, misappropriation of funds and a total lack of probity. We demand the development of a new budget that is genuinely transparent, fair and based on realistic financial planning.”
The PRP added: “We also call on the people of Bauchi State to rise up and hold their leaders accountable. We must not allow our state to be looted by corrupt politicians and their accomplices. We must unite and demand a better future for ourselves, our children and our grandchildren.”
The PRP further strongly condemned the 2025 budget enacted by the Bauchi State Government led by the People's Democratic Party (PDP), alleging that “the budget is a direct reflection of the party's style of governance, characterized by reckless spending, corruption and embezzlement of funds.” and greed.”
“It is appalling to see that the Bauchi State Government is willing to spend an outrageous figure of N39.6 million on just two motorcycles. This absurd allocation of funds, no doubt inflated far beyond market value, raises serious questions about the integrity of budget processes in our state.
“To further compound this gross misallocation, the budget also includes N4.2 million for two desktop computers, N2,450,000 for two printers and a staggering N7 million for just three copiers.
“This waste, amounting to a staggering N53.25 million on items that can be purchased for a fraction of this cost, is not just a miscalculation; is an egregious example of the corruption and greed that have become synonymous with the PDP-led administration in Bauchi.
“Such financial recklessness is a direct reflection of how the government is run: prioritizing personal profit over the pressing needs of the population.
“This budget is a slap in the face to the good people of Bauchi State who are struggling to make ends meet. It is a clear indication that the PDP-led government is more interested in lining the pockets of its cronies than in providing basic amenities and services to the people.
“We are concerned that the State House of Assembly has not diligently scrutinized the budget or that there may be collusion among certain corrupt individuals to misappropriate resources meant for the people of Bauchi.”
