Putin Issues Decree Granting Russian Residency to Foreigners and Stateless Individuals

Must Read

Russian President, Vladimir Putin, has made it easier for people from other countries to live in Russia temporarily.

This change, reported by TravelBiz, is seen as a response to tensions with Western countries. It’s meant for people who aren’t happy with Western policies.

The new rule is for those who share traditional Russian values.

This policy aims to help people who want to leave Western ideologies.

Main Changes in the Residency Process

Language and Knowledge Requirements: Now, you don’t need to know the Russian language, history, or laws to apply.

No Quotas: There’s no limit on the number of temporary residence permits.

To move to Russia, you need to apply for a temporary residence permit first. This is the first step towards permanent residency and maybe even citizenship.

You can get a temporary residence permit for reasons like work, study, family reunification, and medical purposes.

The processing time is about 20 days, and the permit is valid for 3 years.

Requirements:

  • Valid passport
  • Clean criminal record
  • Medical certificates
  • Negative HIV test

After holding a temporary residence permit for two years, you can apply for permanent residency. Permanent residency is valid for 5 years and can be renewed indefinitely.

Permanent residents can work without extra permits and travel without needing new visas.

Documents Needed for Permanent Residency:

  • Valid passport
  • Proof of income and accommodation
  • Health insurance
  • Basic knowledge of the Russian language

Who Can Apply

Before, you had to know the Russian language, history, and laws. But now there are exceptions.

Living costs in Russia:

For a family of four, monthly expenses are estimated at $1,758.3, excluding rent. For a single person, it’s $503.9, not counting rent.

Living in Russia is much cheaper than in the United States. Rent is about 77% lower.

Things to Know

If you want to move to Russia, the first step is to get a temporary residence permit. This permit is valid for three years and can be renewed every year.

With this permit, you have similar rights to Russian citizens.

If you plan to leave and re-enter Russia, you will need an exit and re-entry visa. After two years, you can apply for permanent residency, which gives you more freedom to work and travel.
Permanent residency can also lead to Russian citizenship.

By making the application process easier, Russia is welcoming those who share its values.
