Public Uproar over Implementation of 10-Hour Electricity Supply in UI

Must Read

Students at the University of Ibadan in Oyo State are unhappy and are protesting because they now only get electricity for 10 hours a day, according to DAILY POST.

Starting from Tuesday, the university decided there would be electricity on campus for only 10 hours each day. This was mentioned in a memo from the university’s department of works and maintenance.

The memo, dated July 16, 2024, was signed by Engineer O.A. Adetolu, who is the Director of Works. The memo said: “Starting now, the Vice-Chancellor has approved a 10-hour daily electricity supply on campus as follows: 1. Day Time: 08 a.m. – 02 p.m. (6 hours) 2. Night Time: 10 p.m. – 02 a.m. (4 hours). Please follow this schedule strictly. Thank you.”

DAILY POST found out that many students on campus are very upset about this change.

A student, who didn’t want to give their name, told DAILY POST that students began protesting on Tuesday night.

He said the protest went on until early Wednesday morning.

The student explained, “There was a protest last night that continued until around 2 a.m. today.

“The University of Ibadan announced it would start giving out electricity for only 10 hours a day on campus.

“This decision comes after a big increase in fees and the introduction of strange and repeated fees like a utility fee, which is 20,000 Naira, among other unreasonable fees.”
