The Bauchi State chapter of the People's Redemption Party (PRP), on Friday, rebuked the state government and the House of Assembly over plans to spend N3.4 billion on fuel and travel in 2025.
The PRP stated that both the State House of Assembly and the State Government acted in a manner that has revealed a blatant disregard for the needs and well-being of the citizens they are meant to serve.
In a statement by Wada Abdullahi, Secretary of State, made available to journalists in Bauchi, the PRP stated that “it is time to shed light on the disturbing priorities of those in power and hold them accountable for their greed and irresponsibility amid of a growing economic situation.” struggles faced by the people of Bauchi State.
“Firstly, we took a hard look at the N1 billion meant to power vehicles and generators for Government House. Half of this staggering amount, N500 million, is set aside to power motor vehicles, while a parallel amount of N500 million is allocated to power generators.
“This total of one billion naira not only highlights the extravagant lifestyles of our leaders but also paints a clear picture of their mismanagement of state resources. As families in Bauchi State struggle to make ends meet, our government seems more focused on extravagance than the pressing needs of its citizens.
“As if that was not enough, we are faced with the shocking revelation that the State House of Assembly plans to waste an additional N1.4 billion on travel expenses. This begs the question: how many life-changing schools and health centers could be built with such a monstrous amount?
“Instead, our leaders have prioritized their whims over the important issues affecting our communities – issues that require urgent attention and funding.
“To add insult to injury, the office of the Bauchi State Secretary to Government is budgeting another billion naira for international travel. While our hospitals lack basic medical equipment, our schools are underfunded and our roads remain in poor condition, the government has decided that foreign travel is far more important than addressing the pressing issues facing our communities. This serves as a reminder that those in power are more concerned with self-aggrandizement than with serving the interests of their constituents.
“The PRP takes this opportunity to remind Governor Bala Mohammed and members of the Bauchi State House of Assembly that the people of Bauchi are watching.
“We ask you to put an end to this treacherous path of embezzlement and mismanagement of public funds. The people of Bauchi deserve leaders who will serve their best interests, not those who indulge in unnecessary expenditure while turning a blind eye to the pressing needs of our state.
“We call on the citizens of Bauchi State to rise up against this culture of impunity and demand better things from their elected officials. We must unite in our pursuit of good governance and an end to the systematic plundering of our resources.
“The time has come to take back our state from the hands of those who would see it perish under their greed. In solidarity for a better Bauchi State.”
