President Bola Tinubu wants to help young people in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) by giving them N10 billion. This money is meant to make life better for youths in this area.
Mr. Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the FCT, shared this news on Monday. He was talking about fixing roads in Ushafa, a place in Abuja. The program to help young people will start on Thursday. This is part of what the government is doing to support young people in Nigeria.
Helping Young People Grow
The Minister explained that President Tinubu has made special offices just for women and young people. He even picked a young person to lead the youth division. This shows that the president cares a lot about young people in the FCT.
Wike also said that the N10 billion is part of a larger budget for the FCT, and he encouraged everyone to support the president’s plan.
“This is something new for the FCT. President Tinubu said there must be a special fund to help young people. He approved N10 billion to start making things better for the youth,” Wike added.
Important Information
In the past, it was reported that Wike asked the National Assembly to approve spending N61.6 billion for important projects in the FCT. He did this in November 2023 when he met with the Senate and House of Representatives.
- A large part of the extra budget is for new funds coming in, such as money from the Paris Club Refund and other taxes.
- The minister also mentioned extra money from things like locally generated revenue and funds supporting infrastructure, making the budget now N641.3 billion. This is more than the earlier planned N579.7 billion for 2023.
- In January, Wike shared that the Finance Ministry gave N50 billion of a N100 billion budget to keep working on important projects in the FCT.
- By March 2024, the Senate approved a bigger budget of N1.282 trillion for the FCT in 2024, which is N135 billion more than what was first suggested.
Sen. Ibrahim Bomai, who looks after these matters in the Senate, talked about this approval. The original proposal was for N1.15 trillion for the FCT in 2024.
