The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has raised objections to the results of Idanre Local Government Area of Ondo State in the ongoing gubernatorial election, alleging the use of violence against its party agents during voting and theft of urns.
Laniyi Ogundiji, the party’s state collection agent for the 2024 gubernatorial election, made this statement on Sunday following the announcement of the Idanre local government results.
Benjamin Dauda of the Federal University of Lokoja had earlier presented results showing that the APC won the local government with a margin of 174 votes, securing 9,114 votes against the PDP's 8,940.
Objecting to the LG results, Mr. Ogundiji claimed that elections were not held in Ofosu/Onisere district, alleging that armed thugs chased away his party agents. He also reported cases of ballot theft at some polling stations in the district.
He urged INEC to remove the total votes from Ofosu/Onisere district.
“With due respect to the outcome of the Idanre local government, there was no election in Ofosu/Onisere district. Reports reaching us indicate that all our agents were expelled. There were no elections. The presidents were forced to simply write down the results.
“I hereby request that since there was no election in Ofosu/Onisere district, I pray that the results be deleted from what has been presented here,” he said.

In his speech, the returning officer, Olayemi Akinwumi, stated that the complaint had been noted.
Seventeen political parties and their candidates participated in Saturday's elections. Results announced so far by some electoral units suggest that the contest is shaping up to be a contest between the incumbent governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa of the All Progressives Congress (APC), and former deputy governor, Agboola Ajayi, candidate of the People's Democratic Party. . (PPD).
The collection and announcement of results continues at the collection center in Akure, the state capital. So far, the ruling APC leads all the local governments announced so far.
