Doyin Okupe, who used to speak for the president, talks about problems in a place called Rivers State. He thinks these problems are big and could make things difficult for the whole country’s way of choosing leaders.
On Sunday, Doyin Okupe talked to the News Agency of Nigeria, also known as NAN. He said the problems in Rivers State could cause a lot of trouble if not fixed soon.
He mentioned a disagreement between two leaders: Governor Siminalayi Fubara and the person who had the job before him, Mr. Nyesom Wike, who now works as the FCT Minister, is causing a lot of problems in Rivers State.
Doyin Okupe said this is like a problem between two people a long time ago, Chief Obafemi Awolowo and Chief Samuel Akintola. Even though that problem was smaller, it helped make a government fall.
He thinks the government of Nigeria and good people in Rivers State and all over the country should help fix this issue quickly before it becomes too big to handle.
He also believes that only a political conversation can help solve these problems for everybody involved.
Remember, Wike and Fubara have been arguing for many months about who should be in charge. This has made people in the state nervous and caused fights in the state’s assembly.
Things got worse after October 5, when they held council elections. When the results came out, some people got angry and damaged council buildings.
On Thursday, a court in Abuja agreed with another court’s decision to cancel the state’s 2024 budget. Fubara was using this budget, which was worth 800 billion Naira and passed by his supporters in the House of Assembly. This has added to the confusion.
