Police Urged to Intensify Security Measures at Public Facilities in Edo Amid Planned Protest

The Asue-Ogie Campaign team wants the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, to make sure there is good security around important buildings and places in the state. They are worried because a big protest against the Federal Government is planned soon.

According to DAILY POST, the protest is set to happen on August 1, 2024.

Olu Martins, who is in charge of speaking to the media for the campaign team, said in a meeting in Benin City that they want to make sure everything stays peaceful during the protest.

Martins believes that some bad people are planning to damage important buildings that the government has built. He thinks these people are being paid by others to cause trouble.

He said, “We have good information that these bad guys want to attack places like the Benin City Mall and the Edo Civil Service Secretariat Complex. They plan to destroy and burn these buildings. These places belong to everyone in Edo, not just Governor Godwin Obaseki. We need to tell the people and the media so the security people can be ready. Everyone has to be careful.”

“These buildings were made with taxpayers’ money, not Obaseki’s money. The people of Edo need to know this. We won’t let them destroy what we all paid for with our taxes.”

Chris Nehikhare, the Commissioner for Communication and Orientation, also spoke about this. He said that the plan to damage government buildings is a trick by some bad people to get the federal government to declare a state of emergency in the state after the protest.

Nehikhare wants the Edo State Police Commissioner, Funsho Adegboye, to arrest the thugs who are planning to cause trouble. He said, “The police know who these bad guys are and they should arrest them before they can do any harm.”

“The thugs want to cause violence and damage important buildings by using the August 1, 2024, protest as a cover. We are asking the Police and other security teams to stop this before it happens. We want the federal government to catch and arrest these bad people before they can do anything,” he said.
