Police on Friday raided a criminal hideout in Centenary City, Enugu, and arrested three armed suspects.

Other gang members fled the scene before they could be arrested.

The police spokesperson in Enugu State, Daniel Ndukwe, stated on Saturday that the police recovered eight firearms from the scene, four active and 26 spent cartridges.

He added that the police also recovered from the hideout a machete, four solar-powered CCTV camera units, 13 GSM phones, a DVD player, four bags, clothes and objects suspected to be amulets.

“The preliminary investigation showed that criminal elements had been using the hideout to design and perfect armed robberies and kidnapping, among other crimes.

“The suspects will be prosecuted upon conclusion of investigations,” Ndukwe stated.

State Police also urged residents to respect the law, be vigilant and continue to provide credible and actionable safety information to police.
