Police Officer Detained in Connection with Alleged Homicide in Yobe

A police officer in Yobe State, Nigeria, has been arrested for allegedly killing someone.

The spokesperson for the police, DSP Dungus Abdulkarim, said in a statement on Tuesday that the top police officer, Commissioner Garba Ahmed, has started an investigation. This investigation is about an Inspector named Mohammed Bulama. He works with the Police Mobile Force, PMF, in Damaturu.

What happened was this: On September 29, 2024, around 6:20 PM, Inspector Mohammed Bulama, who is 38 years old, had a serious argument with a man named Abdulmalik Dauda, also known as Baksha. Dauda is 39 years old and lives in Pompomari Ward, Damaturu. They argued about a disagreement over a transaction in the Zango Area.

The argument got very heated and turned into a physical fight. During the fight, Bulama stabbed Dauda in the chest. Bulama also got hurt on his head.

After this happened, Bulama was quickly arrested at the ‘C’ Divisional Police Headquarters. He went there trying to find safety.

Now, the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) is looking into the case. Bulama is in jail and waiting for further actions, including possible punishment and trial.

The police commander, Garba Ahmed, said that Bulama’s actions are unacceptable. He also expressed sympathy to Dauda’s family and said the police are working fast and carefully to investigate. He promised that justice will be done.

“The Nigeria Police Force will not allow its officers to behave badly. We will make sure justice is served and the guilty person is punished,” the Commissioner added.
