Police in Kaduna State have caught and held three people for cheating others at ATM machines.

The police spokesperson, ASP Mansir Hassan, said in a statement on Friday that they also found 54 ATM cards and a machine to process payments.

“On August 27, around 11 PM, after getting reliable information, the police caught three people for cheating at ATMs in a well-planned operation,” he said.

The suspects are Umar Ya’u from Zoo Road Kano, Abdullahi Bukar from Tudun Wada Kaduna, and Hussaini Sulaiman from Zoo Road Kano.

These people were known to hang around ATMs. They pretended to help people who were not sure how to use the machines.

While pretending to help, they would secretly switch the person’s ATM card. Then, they would use the card to take money without permission.

The police found 54 ATM cards from different banks and a payment machine with the suspects. They admitted to cheating many people in Kano, Kaduna, and Zaria.

Police Commissioner Mr. Audu Dabigi promised that the police will keep working hard to protect the community.

He also told everyone to be careful of strangers offering help at ATMs and to report any suspicious behavior to the police right away.
