Police Confirm Mob Killing of Three Accused of Witchcraft in Adamawa

Must Read

The Adamawa State Police Command confirmed that three people were killed because they were accused of being witches.

In a statement signed by police spokesman Suleiman Nguroje, the police said that the victims’ names are Lazarus Bashiru, Galion Isa, and Ajasko Yakubu.

“On September 14, 2024, a report was made at Tigno Divisional Police Headquarters by Dogara Sabon Reza and Jeri Dogara. They reported that Salestina Bala and others worked together to torture and kill three people they said were witches,” the police said.

The victims and suspects are from Lamurde Local Government Area.

The police strongly condemned these unlawful killings and said they have sent officers to arrest those responsible.

“Our investigation led to the arrest of the suspect. Such violent acts can cause chaos and are not acceptable,” the police said.

The police also issued this statement because there were rumors of community unrest in Lamurde that spread across Adamawa State on Monday morning.

According to DAILY POST, the rumors started because a writer posted a public alert on social media early on Monday, saying that violent clashes had killed six people in Lamurde.

The Adamawa Police Command called this report fake news. They said the claim of Lunguda and Waja clashes was false and dangerous.

“There is no truth to the report and no Lunguda/Waja clashes happened,” the police said, advising writers to be careful about what they post online.
