The Kano State Police Command has said that six members of one family died after eating a local dish called Danwake in the Gwarzo area of the state.
A mother named Alhakatu Abdulkarim and her five children, Bashir, Firdausi, Hafsat, Usman, and Jamilu, died a few hours after eating the food which might have been bad.
The Kano Police spokesman, Abdullahi Haruna, said the sad event happened on a Sunday. He mentioned that the family was taken to Gwarzo General Hospital, where doctors confirmed they had passed away.
Haruna also said the police are trying to find out why the family died. They are waiting for a report from the hospital to understand what caused the deaths.
This sad event happened last Thursday. It was said that the mother, who took care of her five children, might have used spoiled cassava flour to make the food.
