PDP to review Ondo gubernatorial election

Must Read

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) says it will take a closer look at Saturday's governorship election in Ondo State and its outcome.

The party stated this in a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, in Abuja on Sunday.

Ologunagba said the party would take appropriate measures in defense of the country's democracy.

“The PDP National Working Committee (NWC) will conduct a closer review of the election and its outcome and take appropriate measures in the defense of our democracy,” he said.

Meanwhile, Ologunagba dismissed the elections as the worst ever conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

He said the elections in Ondo State did not meet all the expectations and requirements of a free, fair and credible election.

According to him, Nigeria has just witnessed the height of fraud, deceit and electoral manipulation by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

“These elections witnessed extensive electoral commercialization, monetization and blatant vote buying by the APC and its governing apparatus to suppress the genuine aspirations of the people,” he said.

Ologunagba drew the attention of Nigerians and the international community to what he said was seen in the elections.

“We demand that serious measures be taken to stop them, if Nigeria's democracy is to survive,” he said.
