On Sunday, in Nantes, Spain played against Nigeria in a soccer match and won 1-0 thanks to Alexia Patellas. She scored an amazing free-kick goal.
At the beginning of the game, Nigeria decided to stay back and let Spain have the ball more often. Even though Spain held the ball a lot, they couldn’t get past Nigeria’s strong defense led by Osinachi Ohale.
In the 22nd minute, Esther Okoronkwo almost scored for Nigeria. She got a nice pass from Rasheedat Ajibade, but Spain’s goalkeeper Cata Coll saved the shot.
Rasheedat Ajibade had a big chance to score for Nigeria nine minutes before halftime. She got a pass from Oshoala, but she couldn’t control the ball well.
Right before halftime, in the 45th minute, Nigeria’s goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie made an incredible save to stop a shot from Spain’s Lucia Garcia.
After halftime, Spain kept controlling the game. In the 53rd minute, Salma Paralluello scored, but the goal didn’t count because she was offside.
In the 65th minute, Ajibade had another chance to score for Nigeria, but she missed and the ball went wide.
Ten minutes before the game ended, Osinachi Ohale blocked a shot from Spain’s Aitana Bonmati to keep Nigeria in the game.
However, in the 85th minute, Alexia Patellas scored a beautiful free kick for Spain, which made it 1-0.
In stoppage time, Nigeria’s substitute player Chiwendu Ihezuo had a golden chance to tie the game, but she missed.
Nigeria, also known as the Super Falcons, will play their next game against Japan on Wednesday.
