On Monday, the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State introduced Mr. Moshood Olayide-Abas as their new Acting Chairman. This change happened because their previous Chairman, Isaac Omodewu, sadly passed away.
Before becoming the Acting Chairman, Olayide-Abas was the Deputy State Chairman of APC. He and the late Omodewu, along with other members, were chosen during the party’s state congress in October 2021.
In an official statement, the Publicity Secretary of Oyo State APC, Olawale Sadare, explained that Olayide-Abas was approved as the Acting Chairman by the state executive committee. They made this decision during an urgent meeting on Monday in Ibadan.
Sadare said, “After our former state chairman passed away, our party’s rules required us to promote the Deputy State Chairman to Acting Chairman. The state executive committee has now made this change official.”
The statement highlighted that Olayide-Abas has a strong background both as a professional and a politician. He is a qualified pharmacist who started his political career in the 1970s with the Unity Party of Nigeria (UPN), learning directly from the late Uncle Bola Ige.
In 1991, Olayide-Abas became the Executive Chairman of the old Ifeloju Local Government Area (LGA), which later split into Ibarapa Central and Ibarapa North LGAs. He was also made Chairman of the Oyo State Hospital Management Board during the first term of the late Senator Abiola Ajimobi.
Between 2004 and 2009, Olayide-Abas held several party positions at the state level under the now-defunct Action Congress (AC) and later the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN).
