Benjamin Kalu, who is the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, said that the All Progressives Congress (APC) will pick the next governor of Abia State.
Kalu mentioned that the current governor, Alex Otti, will be the last governor from the Labour Party (LP) to manage the state.
The Deputy Speaker, representing Bende Federal Constituency as part of the APC, made these comments during an interview.
He said that the APC will win the governor’s seat in the 2027 elections, because of the hard work of President Bola Tinubu.
“This will be the last time a Labour Party governor will govern Abia State. The next governor of Abia State will be from the APC,” declared Kalu.
Kalu also said he is friends with the current governor, and he has already told him about it.
“We are friends, and we work together, but I won’t be the Deputy Speaker and have another party controlling my state. In 2027, APC will win in Abia State.
“I have told the governor both in public and in private that the next governor will be from the APC. I don’t know how it will happen, but it will happen.
“I am sure because our government is working hard, and President Tinubu is doing a great job. Abia State will thank Tinubu for his good work. Tinubu has created the South East Development Commission, and we will show our gratitude.
“Tinubu is appointing people from Abia into important positions, and he is bringing benefits of democracy to us. We are not ungrateful. APC is helping Abia become stronger, and we want the credit for it.
“APC will decide who the next governor of Abia State is. I don’t care about the person’s name. But I know the next governor will be from APC.
“We are ready to work for Abia State, and we are tired of being outside the main government. We need the power of the main government to help develop Abia State.”
