The Osun State Police have arrested a 50-year-old man named Kehinde Ganiyu. He is accused of killing his friend from Ghana, Emmanuel Collins, in Osogbo for money rituals.

The police spokesperson, Yemisi Opalola, said in a press conference that 35-year-old Collins was killed by Ganiyu on Tuesday, July 9, 2024.

Ganiyu admitted to killing Collins while he was asleep. He used a kitchen knife to slit Collins’ throat and left it out in the sun to dry for three days.

The police found many things at Ganiyu’s home. These included four blood-stained knives, a chisel, two gourds, a wooden pot with black soap, two local sponges, a traditional tray, a wooden box, and some local charms.

On July 18, 2024, at about 3:00 pm, the police got a tip. They learned that a Ghanaian man named Emmanuel Collins, 35 years old, had been killed earlier that day. Police detectives quickly started investigating. They arrested Kehinde Ganiyu, a close friend of Collins.

Ganiyu confessed to the crime. He said he went to Collins’ house at 9:00 pm on July 9, 2024. Collins was sick and sleeping when Ganiyu killed him with a kitchen knife and took his throat.

Ganiyu also said that he dried the throat for three days. Then he took it to a bush area called Igbo Imese Aiwosi, where he burned it in a clay pot with other ritual items. He mixed the ashes with soap for a money ritual.

Yemisi Opalola said the police are still investigating, and Ganiyu will go to court soon.

In another case, a 22-year-old man named Effiong Saviour was arrested for trying to kill someone and for robbery.

Opalola said Effiong attacked a woman with a cutlass on Wednesday evening, July 17, 2024, in Ipetumodu town. He stole her bag, which had her phone, ATM card, phone batteries, chargers, and 6,000 Naira in cash. He also cut her badly with the machete.

On July 18, 2024, at 10:15 am, the woman’s brother reported the attack to the police. He said his sister was attacked at about 6:00 pm on July 17, 2024. The police acted quickly and arrested Effiong. Effiong confessed to the crime, and the police found all the stolen items, including the cutlass used in the attack.

The victim was taken to the hospital and is getting better now.

Effiong will be charged in court once the investigation is over.
