A car crashed into a busy Christmas market in Magdeburg, Germany, on Friday, leaving one person dead and nearly 70 injured in what authorities suspect was a terrorist attack.
According to the UK Telegraph, the attack occurred at 7:04 p.m. local time in Magdeburg, capital of the province of Saxony-Anhalt, located west of Berlin, with a population of about 240,000 people.
Eyewitnesses recounted how the vehicle crashed through barriers designed to protect the market and directly ran over unsuspecting buyers.
Video footage from a nearby camera reportedly captured the car speeding through a narrow alley lined with stalls, knocking over pedestrians in its path.

According to German news agency DPA, the driver of the dark-coloured BMW has been arrested, while police have cordoned off the city center in search of possible explosives linked to the incident.
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz expressed his shock and said: “My thoughts are with the victims and their loved ones.”
Authorities have maintained a heavy security presence around the suspect's car, which remains at the scene. German public broadcaster MDR reported that an explosive device could be inside the vehicle.
In reaction to the development of X, Tesla owner Elon Musk called for Chancellor Scholz to resign.
He tweeted: “Scholz should resign immediately. “Incompetent fool.”
