Ondo Gubernatorial Race: PDP Candidate and Party Clash Over Campaign Council

Must Read

The Ondo State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) had a big disagreement on Monday about who should be in the campaign team for the upcoming governorship election.

The problem started because their candidate for governor, Agboola Ajayi, chose people for the campaign team without asking the party first.

Through his spokesperson, Samuel Ogunmusi, Agboola Ajayi said that Eddy Olafeso, who used to be the party’s National Vice Chairman for the South West, will be the Chairman of his campaign team.

Ogunmusi also said that Clement Faboyede, who was once the party’s state chairman, will be the Director General of the Campaign Council. John Ola-Mafo will work as the Director General for special duties, and Deji Aseniserare will be the Secretary.

The party’s publicity secretary, Kennedy Peretei, was very upset about this. He said it was wrong and embarrassing because it went against the party’s rules.

“The announcement from Samuel Ogunmusi about who will run Agboola Ajayi’s campaign is not only embarrassing but also against the PDP Constitution (2017 as amended).

“Articles 46(1) and 40(1)(a)(b) and (c) do not allow such announcements made by people not recognized by the party. So, all these announcements are invalid and meaningless.

“Our party follows rules and laws. We will announce the real campaign team at the right time,” said Peretei.
