Oil Theft: Troops Apprehend 8 Suspects, Recover Stolen Products in Bayelsa and Akwa-Ibom

Soldiers from the Nigerian Army, 6 Division, have caught eight people doing bad things. These people were stealing oil and breaking pipelines in Bayelsa and Akwa Ibom states.

Lt. Col. Danjuma Jonah Danjuma, the Acting Deputy Director of the 6 Division Army Public Relations, said this in a message to DAILY POST.

He said they caught the people along the Nun River in the Southern Ijaw area. They had two boats full of stolen oil, more than 1,000 liters!

In another place called Clough Creek, in Ekeremor, soldiers caught one person with broken cables, a saw, an iron bar, and a shovel in a wooden boat.

At Apuama in Southern Ijaw, the soldiers found and closed down a place where they were making oil illegally. They took over 3,000 liters of stolen oil.

At Okegbene creeks, they did the same thing. They found two illegal sites, destroyed drums, and a wooden boat. They also took over 10,000 liters of stolen oil.

At Obotoro Creek, they caught a boat with over 1,500 liters of stolen oil.

In Akwa Ibom State, at the Ibaka waterside in Mbo area, soldiers stopped six drums of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), which was about 1,500 liters. It was about to be smuggled to another country through the water.

Lt. Col. Danjuma said, “All the people we caught are now with the police. The stolen products are being taken care of by the officials.”
