Ogun car accident: OOU VC mourns death of 3 students

The Vice Chancellor of Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), Ago-Iwoye, Professor Ayodeji Agboola, on Saturday expressed his condolences to the families of three students who lost their lives in the fatal Ilisan-Ago-Iwoye road accident.

Newslodge reports that Friday's lone accident claimed the life of Nifesimi Dada, a 300-level Geology student of the institution; Opeyemi Joshua, Tax Level 200; and Ogooluwa Miracle Daniel, a 200-level Mass Communication student.

The state police spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, attributed the accident to excessive speeding by the driver identified as Adekunle Adebiyi, who was driving the Opel Safira with Lagos registration plate AAA-126HE.

Other students of the university, who were also injured in the accident, were rushed to the hospital for medical attention.

In a statement released on Saturday by Wale Balogun of the OOU Corporate Affairs Division, Ago-Iwoye, Agboola was quoted as saying that the university is still deeply saddened by the death of its students.

The statement adds that the institution is collaborating with the corresponding authorities to offer support and help to impacted families.

The statement reads: “Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims' families during this incredibly difficult time.

“We can only imagine the excruciating pain and grief you must be experiencing and we want you to know that you are not alone in your pain.

“The loss of precious life is always devastating and it is especially heartbreaking when it occurs unexpectedly and in such tragic circumstances.

“Our university community is still recovering from the impact of this incident and we pray for the peaceful repose of the souls of the deceased.”

The vice chancellor expressed his solidarity with the families of the victims and asked God to give them strength to face this irreversible loss.

He also assured the public and university community that the school will continue to provide a safe and encouraging environment for all employees and students.
