OAU Student Murder Case: Appeal Court Deliberates on Hilton Hotels Owner’s Appeal Against Death Sentence

Must Read

The big court in Akure, a place in Ondo State, is thinking about a big decision. This decision is about changing what they decided for a man named Ramon Adedoyin. He owns a big hotel in Ile-Ife, Osun State. They said he was guilty and should be punished with death because a student from Obafemi Awolowo University, named Timothy Adegoke, died.

Ramon Adedoyin and two people who work at his hotel, Adeniyi Aderogba and Oyetunde Kazeem, were told by another court in Osun State that they should be punished with death. Three other workers were told they were not guilty, and one more worker was told to go to jail for two years.

Timothy Adegoke died between November 5 and 7 in 2021 when he was staying at Ramon’s hotel.

This big court in Akure, led by a judge named Olufemi Akeju, has not made its final decision yet. They listened to both sides on Tuesday and will tell them later when they decide.

The lawyer for Ramon, a smart man named Kehinde Eleja, said that the previous court did not show that Ramon was definitely involved in Timothy’s death. Eleja said the court made mistakes in their decision.

He also questioned why the court told Ramon to pay for Timothy’s children’s schooling if Ramon was being punished so severely.

The lawyer arguing against Ramon, a powerful lawyer named Femi Falana, said there was strong evidence against him. Falana said there were fake papers and people talked about how Ramon might have asked his workers to lie about the situation.

He also talked about blood marks found in the room where Timothy stayed, which showed something bad might have happened. Falana wanted the big court to agree with the first court’s decision.

Lawyers for the workers who were found guilty asked the court for another chance, saying the investigation into Timothy’s passing wasn’t finished.

Yet, Falana said the clues and what the workers did to hide Timothy’s death showed they were not telling the truth and were not innocent.
