Numerous Casualties Reported in Clash Between Security Forces and Bandits in Niger

Must Read

In a village called Kundu, along the Zungeru-Tegina road in Niger State, some bad guys called bandits tried to cause trouble. But brave soldiers and local helpers stopped them.

This happened on Wednesday morning and it made people in a nearby market very scared. They left their homes because of the loud shooting sounds.

People said the bandits were trying to move across the area in large groups towards another place called Akare when soldiers set a trap for them.

One of the army men, who didn’t want to say his name, shared that they had been following the bandits’ movements because they knew the path they usually took.

He said the army planned everything carefully. “Our soldiers did well, even though the bandits tried to take their fallen friends with them,” the army man said.

Niger State’s Security Chief, Brigadier General Bello Abdullahi Mohammed (rtd), said, “This win is good, but we must stay ready because the bad guys don’t give up easily.”

People who saw what happened shared their stories. “We heard gunshots for hours. The bad guys were on about 40 motorbikes and tried to cross the road near Kundu village.

They had stopped some cows they wanted to steal when the soldiers and local helpers surprised them.

We thank God that the soldiers were stronger and forced the bad guys to run away,” a resident said.

Another resident added, “We heard about these bandits coming since Tuesday, so our local helpers were prepared.

They were waiting by the road and saw the bandits on Wednesday morning. They called the soldiers, who then ambushed the bandits.

Thank God the soldiers were there; it could have been very bad because our local helpers can’t fight the bandits alone due to their fewer weapons and smaller numbers.”
